biGger wheel

The bigger wheel is one of the first bikes I ever wanted to build. had always been intrigued with the youth that the "big wheel" embodied. i wanted to fully tap into that youth in order to do that the big wheel had to grow up it had to get bigger.

The first prototype was built in a two day frenzy, using a frame that i had found and throwing together steel to make something that resembled the big wheel in spirit. i added a special touch to that first design, dual axis steering. ie: the front wheel and rear axle turned together, this made for an overly complicated design with dramatic oversteer. this was simplified by returning the bike to front wheel steering only.

first prototype and experimental models

my personal big wheel and continual experimantal model

current big wheel design.

Future designs include a folding base rear frame for easier packaging and transportation

kitten

i had always wanted to build a bike with car wheels just because of the absurdity of it. early in 2008 i saw a mismatched pair of car/truck wheels next to a dumpster. after waiting a few weeks the wheels were not moved or removed i figured the best fate for them was to be repurposed for a bicycle.

the original concept wat to build the bike completely square and have all square tubing connect at 90 degree angles. any round tubing would meet at non-right angles

the bike was later adjusted by sloping the top tube down allowing for a better seating position. a moveable headlight was added with two solar headlights, it was painted yellow and became the kitten

The Jesus lizard

the jesus lizard is a 25ft, 4 person, 4 wheeled bike that was built for the 2006 Arcata to Ferndale kinetic sculpture race. in the race the vehicles must be human powered and must traverse, road, beach sand, mud and water.

this lizard is steered by a steering wheel and has a central steering hinge. the central hinge makes the bike replicate a lizards spine motion but also allows for a very tight turning radius(7.5ft)and can torsion the spine, which allows all four wheels to always be on the ground.

it is named after the "jesus lizard" a central american basilisk that can run on water.

The Double Decker

the Double Decker was a comissioned bike built in 2008, it is a two story bike with rear wheel steering and front wheel drive. it can be controlled from the top or the bottom, has room for 4 riders, 2 passengers and a sound system.

Go dog go

built in a 10 hour frenzy, using hacked bikes and parts from previous projects, the go dog go bike was built. meant to resemble the "dog cars" from the childrens book "go dog go" by PD Eastman.

Pedicab trailer

this pedicab was built to be an attractive, low maintenance, people mover.

utility trailers

These trailers were built for some local farmers who wish to minimize their car useage. The trailers see daily use on a farm and around town moving food implements and supplies.
